Now is your time to speak out. Send the Governor a postcard asking him to keep the Island open to the public and maintain its historic buildings. Without Albany's commitment by April 1 the Island may be shut down. The Governor and other elected leaders need to know that Governors Island is your Island, and that you care.
Please fill out this form to send your comments to Governor Paterson via postcard:
Dear Governor Paterson,
Don’t let my Island - Governors Island - close this summer.
Governors Island is ball fields, bicycles, art, picnics, kayaks, history, music, stone forts, green lawns, quiet harbor breezes, views of Lady Liberty, the first Dutch settlement and New York’s most exciting new destination.
But all that is in peril if funding is not approved this year.
Please make Governors Island your Island by providing the necessary funding. Your support this budget year will keep redevelopment plans - for schools, parks, the arts and historic buildings - moving forward.
