The SCIP database, maintained by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), has been operational since January 2021 and requires article suppliers to notify ECHA of substances of very high concern (SVHC) present in their products.
The primary objective of the SCIP database is to reduce the presence of SVHCs in materials and products, thereby preventing hazardous waste. It aims to improve the flow of information along the supply chain, with a particular focus on waste operators.
Despite fulfilling its legal obligations, the SCIP database faces several challenges, including some questions about its overall effectiveness in supporting waste prevention and recycling targets.
The European Commission has asked FEAD to collect feedback from waste management operators in order to evaluate and improve the functioning of the SCIP database. FEAD will aggregate your answers and send a coordinated response to the Commission.
