Some minors within CBS require completed prerequisites before being eligible to declare the minor. Please read the following prerequisites/exceptions before completing this form.
Students with the following majors may NOT declare a biology minor: Animal Science (Pre-Vet/Science sub-plan only); Biology, Society, and the Environment; Clinical Laboratory Sciences; Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management: Environmental Science track; Fisheries and Wildlife; Nutrition (nutritional science sub-plan only); Physiology; Scientific and Technical Communication (Biological and Health Sciences sub-plan only); Individually designed programs with a life sciences emphasis. Non-CBS students may pursue minors in both pharmacology and biology. Additionally, students completing a minor in any of the CBS undergraduate departments cannot also pursue a Biology Minor.
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete two prerequisite courses before declaring. Students must complete MICB 3301 and either BIOC 3021 or BIOC 4331. The minor cannot be added if prerequisite courses are in progress.
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete one prerequisite course before declaring. Students must complete NSCI 1001. The minor cannot be added if the prerequisite course is in progress.
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA before declaring.
Marine Biology Minor
Students must have a 2.0 GPA in their math and science courses and complete four prerequisite courses before declaring. Students must complete one of any of the following Biology courses: BIOL 1001, BIOL 1003, BIOL 1009, BIOL 1010, BIOL 1055, or BIOL 2002. Students must also complete both CHEM 1061 and CHEM 1065 before declaring. The minor cannot be added if prerequisite courses are in progress.
At this time, the Biochemistry and Plant Biology minors do not have any prerequisites before declaring. Please check catalogs.umn.edu for the most updated requirements for all CBS minors.
