EQUI INSTITUTE - Board Application & Position Description
*Enriching the health of the Trans, Queer, Non-binary and Intersex communities through trauma informed care, culturally competent medical services and social justice advocacy.

The Equi Institute’s Board of Directors meets on average one-two times a month to participate in further developing the overall agency policies, financial health, vision, strategy, and resource development for the organization. Equi’s board is seeking multi-talented, diverse candidates for the board.
We strongly encourage individuals who can identify with our broader community and/or the patients and practitioners we serve, especially trans, intersex, women, queer and gender variant individuals, people of color, people living with disabilities and immigrants to apply to the board for consideration.
Currently, the Equi Institute and the patients and practitioners we primarily serve would benefit from board appointment candidates with one or more of the following experiences:
Nonprofit knowledge, fundraising and development experience

Broad and deep financial/bookkeeping expertise

A background in health such as a medical practitioner and/or administrative background including medical billing

Legal experience as it relates to nonprofit organizations and/or health care

A professional background in communications, marketing, social media

Ideal candidates for the board have a strong affinity for Equi’s mission* statement, are available for meetings, can be available for evening or weekend events/annual retreat, express willingness to fundraise or speak about the organization with constituents, and must serve on at least one of the agency's active committees.
The minimum estimated amount of time that a board member is expected to spend on volunteering is about 10 hours a month outside of meeting. The minimum give or get (through fundraising or direct contributions) is currently $1,000 per fiscal year (12 months) and may be accomplished through special events, online fundraising, and house parties. Board members are committed individuals and make an annual written pledge to attend at least 70% of all board and committee meetings.

The practitioners and administrative staff are trans and queer folks giving support to trans and queer folks in high trauma situations. Right now, we need to prioritize the needs of medical practitioners and admin because they are busy prioritizing the needs of almost 1,000 of our community members.
