2025-26 ASCC Student Senate Application
Congratulations on deciding to become a part of the ASCC Student Senate!
As a Senator here at Cabrillo College, you have a greater responsibility to the students, administration, and college as a whole. Your position will also determine which duties you’ll be tasked with during your term. You’ll be able to find a complete list of these duties in the ASCC Senate Bylaws. Contact the Advisor during their office hours or by email. ASCC Student Senate representatives receive a stipend at the end of the term based on your participation.

Student Senate executive members hold the responsibilities listed below in addition to those of the Senator-at-Large.
President:
- Represent the Associated Students at all official Student Senate functions
- Preside over Student Senate meetings every Thursday from 3-5pm
- Collect items and build agendas for all upcoming meetings
- Attend College Planning Council (CPC) every other Wednesday from 2-4 p.m
- Attend the Board of Trustee Meetings the *first Monday of every month (*changes w/holidays)

Vice President
- Chair the Constitution and Bylaws committee                            
- Maintain Student Senate meeting attendance and committee assignment records
- Act as President in their absence
- Act as parliamentarian

Treasurer
- Chair the Budget Committee
- Maintain all fiscal records for the Student Senate
- Sign purchase and disbursement requisitions
- Present the budget for the following year

Student Trustee
- Represent the Associated Students to the District Governing Board of Trustees        
- Attend monthly Governing Board meetings the first Monday of each month starting at 5pm
- Serve on the Governing Board subcommittee
- Attend Student Senate meetings

Legislative Representative
- Apprise the Student Senate of local and state legislation affecting community colleges
- Develop and lead advocacy plans
- Attend Region IV meetings
- Function as the Cabrillo College delegate to the Statewide Student Senate for California Community Colleges  
- Travel to and attend General Assembly and other local conferences/meetings

Watsonville Representative
- Be the Watsonville Center’s delegate to the ASCC Student Senate
- Report weekly on the Watsonville campus’ activities, needs, and programs
- Must be taking or have taken a 3 unit course at the Watsonville Center
- Must maintain office hours at the Watsonville Center

Inter-Club Council Chair
- Collect and create agendas for all upcoming ICC meetings
- Chair all ICC meetings Wednesdays 3pm-4:00pm
- Maintain office hours
- Report to the Student Senate on all pertinent club and ICC activities

Director of Public Relations
- Chair the Public Relations Committee
- Provide publicity support for all ASCC Student Senate events.
- Maintain office hours
- Initiate, establish, and maintain a consistent relationships with representatives of local media, college news  sources, and the local community.      

Senator-at-Large (12 Positions)
- Vote on issues brought before the Senate as a representative of the students of Cabrillo College. The President, however, may  only vote in the case of a tie.  
- Serve on the following four committees: one internal, one Ad-Hoc, one external – frequent (College), and one external – infrequent (College).
- Participate in Student Senate activities and events.
- Must maintain office hours

Academic Setting and Background Check

a.) Upon filing for office, I must have a minimum overall grade point average as outlined in the Bylaws.

b.) I must maintain the minimum cumulative 2.0 G.P.A required for each semester I am on the Student Senate.

c.) I will be enrolled in and complete an equivalent of at least six units each semester that I am on the Student Senate or I will automatically forfeit my position on the Student Senate.

d.) For applicants in their first semester at Cabrillo: I have been admitted to Cabrillo on a “clean” academic status.
