Petition to CMU Admin Against Hosting the National AI and Energy Summit

On Friday, June 13th, CMU Admin sent out an email notifying faculty and students that President Donald Trump is expected to attend a national AI and Energy Summit hosted on the CMU campus. This event is scheduled to take place on July 15th. CMU's reputation is at stake. By hosting this summit, at which major fossil fuel, oil, and AI executives, along with Donald Trump himself, will be present, CMU cannot claim to defend sustainability, freedom of speech, or democracy in good faith. CMU admin is making a clear stance, politically aligning themselves with the federal government and legitimizing their cuts to research, kidnapping of international students, and abuse of power. If this event is to continue, it will be clear that CMU does not value the input of its community members.

We demand that CMU decline to hold this event. Trump has shown multiple times that being compliant with him does not generate goodwill, and instead, it will sour the relationship they have with their students, faculty, and staff.

The petition was delivered to CMU Admin on Monday June 7th with a total of 1452 signatures including over 600 CMU students, over 300 from CMU alumni, and the rest being from CMU faculty, staff, Pittsburgh residents, and more.
