HYDRA 2023 Volunteer Registration
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Calliope Collective! Please fill out the form below and we will be in touch to provide more information and assign shifts. If you have any questions, please contact: community@calliopecollective.com

Key dates:

Set-up and tech rehearsal: June 13th to 14th
Show dates: June 16th and 17th
Tear-down: June 18th

Location: Kingston Mills

A note about transportation: On June 16th and 17th, Kingston Transit will be offering HYDRA audiences free transit to the park and ride at Montreal Street and Highway 401 from 5pm to 11pm. From there, you can take a trolley or shuttle to the site. This is a good option for volunteers who are working the show and post-show shifts.

If you have a pre-show shift or are volunteering on another date, you will need to arrange your own transportation. See our website for more information: https://calliopecollective.com/hydra/#getting-there

Volunteer roles

Artist assistants (youth-friendly role):
Volunteer artist assistants will be assigned to each installation to help support the artists and ensure everything runs smoothly. These volunteers will assist in preparing and moving installations around the site and water.

Community art facilitators (youth-friendly role):
This position allows you the opportunity to chat with audience members and help facilitate the construction of a community art piece in honour of the water. Responsibilities include explaining the art installation to the audience, assisting folks as needed as they write their messages/intentions to the water on fabric, and assist people with the weaving of their messages into the sculpture.

Greeters and guides:
Join our Greeters/Guides team and help welcome folks to Hydra! The Greeters and Guides provide information to help people have a positive experience, helping to create an accepting environment for our participants to begin their time here. Help direct to washrooms, assist with community engagement components of the show (bubbles) and help maintain a parameter for cast/crew and audience areas.

"Leave no trace" crew:
While LNT is the responsibility of all attendees, we also understand that MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) happens. To ensure that Calliope Leaves No Trace on the land we are privileged to use for HYDRA, we need your help to tidy up the land before, during and after the public presentation!

Set up and strike crew:
Set up: Marking off public viewing areas, performer spaces, and cast/crew areas, assistance with set up of artist work areas, placing signage, set up of temporary structures, cordoning parking areas, coordinating transportation and arrival of art deliveries. Strike: Tear down, and pack up of temporary structures. Assistance in removing art from water, arranging for transportation.
