Please Join Becoming Beloved Community Committee (BBC) on Saturday, November 4 at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC) for a learning experience on the biases we experience every day. This is not your average workplace Implicit Bias training; it has been tailored for the Cincinnati area and our church by the Freedom Center.
This will be a fulfilling day to stretch our minds and open our hearts to the biases we are often unaware of, to help us love our neighbors and to recognize and challenge our own unconscious, habitual patterns of thought.
After the program we are free to tour the facility and then join up for a great lunch and fellowship within walking distance of NURFC, downtown.
Schedule of events:
*9:30- Meet us at St. B to carpool downtown, if you would like.
10:15 - IB program begins.
11:45- IB program concludes.
*11:45- 12:30 tour of NURFC on our own.
*12:30 - lunch at nearby restaurant
*1:30 - Carpool leaves for St. B
*2 pm- Back at St. B
Note: Times are approximate, but we’ll try to be close.
Food for thought: “You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid…. You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so, you refuse to take the stand.
Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.”
