The CBIR program is designed to strengthen social connection, increase participation in community life, and activate neighborhood spaces through consistent, low-barrier programming.
CBIR uses a skill-based service model. Each Community Builder brings an interest, skill, talent, or area of experience that can be turned into programming that brings people together. This might include gardening, cooking, fitness and wellness, creative arts, maker activities, event coordination, or another idea. Each AmeriCorps volunteer takes primary responsibility for an identified program area while also working as part of the larger CBIR team.
Service Commitment: Members serve from November 1, 2026 through August
31, 2027 and complete at least 450 hours over the course of the program year,
averaging approximately 45 hours per month. Members who successfully complete
the service term may be eligible for a $1,956.35 Segal AmeriCorps Education
Award. The CBIR program does not provide a living allowance.
Optional Housing: Six CBIR apartments are available at 120 North East Street in Woonsocket for $625 per month, plus utilities. Housing is optional, subject to separate eligibility requirements, and is not guaranteed. There is flexibility in the housing start date.
