Wonderbloom Nature Playschool Application ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-2020
Wonderbloom: Nature Playschool (formerly Wee Humans) is a non-profit, state-licensed, nature-based early childhood education program. Wonderbloom was the first nature-based preschool to be established in Salt Lake City. We were inspired by the philosophy of European "Forest Schools," where children spend most of the school time in the outdoors -- learning through interaction with nature. Nature-based learning is increasing in popularity throughout the United States because this type of education has many benefits - some of which include: increased creativity, stronger immune system, reduced obesity, better psychological well-being, advanced cognitive skills, increased positive social skills, and more positive attitudes toward nature and the environment.

Wonderbloom is based in an outdoor classroom and we take a holistic approach to learning by focusing on Mind (developmentally-appropriate school readiness), Body (yoga and organic nutrition), and Soul (relationships with each other and nature). Each class will experience nature-based lesson plans tailored to the abilities and interests of the students. The day always includes time for yoga, mindfulness, storytelling, art, and an organic snack from local ingredients (when in season). Our ratios are small with no more than 8 students per adult.

Wonderbloom is located at 231 E 100 S in Salt Lake City (on the property of the Cathedral church of St. Mark). Though housed in the administrative wing of St. Mark's Cathedral, Wonderbloom is an independent organization that is not affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Utah or the Cathedral Church of St. Mark. Our curriculum is conducive and welcoming to families of all backgrounds. Please visit our website (wonderbloom.org) to see photos of our outdoor classroom and indoor space on the beautiful cathedral grounds.

Sarah Stone, the founder and Director of Wonderbloom, has a PhD in early childhood development and has spent over 16 years teaching and supervising early childhood programs including Parents As Teachers and Early Head Start. In addition, Sarah has trained in nature-based education approaches. She has incorporated her extensive knowledge of early childhood development with principles of nature-based learning to create the underlying philosophy and structure of Wonderbloom.

Acknowledgement of Nature-Based Preschool Philosophy *
Wonderbloom Nature Playschool is based in an outdoor classroom. As often as possible, we will be outdoors - all year round - in rain, snow, or shine. We will go inside in case of unsafe air quality or unsafe weather conditions. As a parent, I agree to prepare my child (physically, mentally, emotionally) to spend up to three hours outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Acknowledgement of Parent Volunteer Requirement *
Wonderbloom Nature Playschool requires a parent or guardian to volunteer in the school 5 hours per month and also volunteer on a committee. Parent participation makes our school stronger by helping to bridge the gap between home and school. In addition, parent participation provides continuity for the children.

3. You may withdraw your student at any time, but you will not be refunded for payment already submitted.
