Course Description: This course will follow the state core, which can be found at: This course is a full year course. Students must be enrolled in Secondary III or III Honors for the entire year.

Text (optional): Integrated Mathematics 3 The text will not be used explicitly in class, however, it is available for students to get from the book depository to have as a resource.

Materials Needed: (should be brought to class daily)
- Graphing calculator is required. (TI-84 preferred) The school has calculators available to rent
if needed. CELL PHONES MAY NOT BE USED AS CALCULATOR on assessments!
- Paper
- Writing utensil
- 3-ring binder or folder (some way to keep notes, tasks and assignments organized)

Grading Scale: Grades are determined by weighted average of assignments and assessments.
A 93% and above B- 80-82.9% D+ 67-69.9%
A- 90-92.9% C+ 77-79.9% D 63-66.9%
B+ 87-89.9% C 73-76.9% D- 60-62.9%
B 83-86.9% C- 70-72.9% F 59.9% and below

Grading Policy:

• 60% SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Summative assessments are a measurement of a student’s understanding of a full quarter’s content. One summative assessment will be given at the end of each quarter and will be cumulative for the entire quarter. This single assessment is worth the majority of the student’s grade, so it is important to prepare throughout the term by understanding homework, retaking formative assessments, and reviewing the material prior to the summative assessment. There will be no retakes for the summative assessment, but students have the option to complete a test analysis. This consists of re-doing all missed problems and writing a sentence explaining why you missed the problem. A test analysis does not put points back on the original test score but counts as a separate assignment.

• 20% FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Formative assessments are designed to allow students to measure if they have a solid understanding of course learning objectives. Formative assessments will be given at the end of each unit. Students will have the option to do corrections and relearn the content that they missed. After doing this, they can retake the formative assessment for full points. It is recommended that all students receiving below an 80% on the formative assessment should retake it to better learn the content. The retake will replace the previous grade. The purpose of the formative assessment is to help students prepare for the summative assessment at the end of the term. A retake on a formative assessment must be completed before the next formative assessment is taken.

o If you are absent on the day of an assessment, you must take the assessment during the next class period you are present unless prior arrangements were made. If you are gone for a school excused absence you need to meet with me before you leave. Missed assessments must be completed before the next formative assessment is given. If you are absent on the day of a review you are still required to take the assessment on the day it is given, unless prior arrangements are made.

• 20% ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments will be given daily and will be due at the beginning of the next class period. Assignment information can be found on the assignment outline and also on the class website. If you are absent the assignments missed (the assignment that was due on the day missed and the assignment assigned on the day missed) are due when you return to class. This also applies to school excused absences! It is your responsibility to be caught up on content by the time the assessment is given, regardless of absences. Students are expected to grade any late assignments before turning them in.

Late Assignments: Late work will be accepted before the formative assessment.

End of Term: End of term work will be due on a designated date before the end of the term. Any work turned in after that date will not be accepted for a grade.

Cheating: If you are caught cheating, you WILL BE GIVEN A ZERO. Having your cell phone OUT during an assessment or quiz is considered cheating. I highly encourage working together and believe it is beneficial, but there is a difference between working together and cheating.

Absence Policy: I support the school’s attendance policy. See student handbook for details.

Tutoring: I will usually be available before and after school everyday (not Monday afternoons) and strongly encourage students to come to me if any extra help is needed or use other resources. Tutoring is also available after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the math lab from 2:30-3:30.

• follow the rules of behavior and dress as outlined by the district and school.
• be respectful to other classmates, your teacher and the classroom.
• come prepared for class everyday by bringing your materials, including assignments.
• listen carefully and follow all instructions.
• use class time wisely. When you are given time to work on math, you are expected to be working on math.
• be on time and turn in your work on time.
• keep any electronic devices (phones, ipods, kindles, etc) in the turned off position out of sight during teaching time.
