"No chametz shall be found in your houses for seven days” (Exodus 12:19). Products considered chametz include: leavened bread, spaghetti, crackers, cereal, wheat, barley, oats, spelt, rye, and all liquids containing ingredients or flavors made from grain alcohol. As much as possible, we try to clear our house of these products before Passover. At the same time, Judaism recognizes that one should not incur undue financial loss in observance of the mitzvot. Therefore, you may sell your chametz, or have Rabbi Katz sell them on your behalf so that they are not under your ownership during the holiday.
It is customary to make a "Maot Chitim" ("Wheat money") donation at the time of selling your chametz so as to make sure that people in poverty are able to afford food for Passover. Please make your donation and designate it as "Maot chitim" here:
