In 2018, the Illinois General Assembly passed Public Act 100-1049 (SB 2838; the Dual Credit Quality Act) to help address the inconsistencies in dual credit opportunities scattered around Illinois in various local formats. Education Systems Center out of Northern Illinois University explains, "Illinois recently achieved a major milestone in its efforts to expand dual credit access and offerings with the adoption of the Model Partnership Agreement (MPA) by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). This Agreement guides local partnerships between school districts and community colleges necessary for the successful implementation of quality dual credit courses and related student supports." The team at Education Systems Center facilitated the work of the Dual Credit Committee in order to develop the MPA.
