Loyola Law Externship Application Fall 2019
Before completing the application, students should make sure to understand the requirements and have a sincere interest to pursue an externship. Please make sure all information is accurate and ready to submit. Once this application is complete, the Office of Skills and Experiential Learning will check Simplicity to download the most updated version of your resume, cover letter, transcript and writing sample. After submitting this application, Prof. Brown may request an internal interview, contact you by email or directly send your application materials to the field placement office. Select the academic credits and hourly commitment for which you wish to enroll:
1 credit = 60 hours (approx. 4 hrs per week); 2 credits = 120 hours (approx. 8 hrs per week); 3 credits = 180 hours (approx. 12 - 13 hrs per week). Some placements require a minimum 2-credit-hour commitment.

If yes, please list the placement(s) and the number of credit hours earned at each placement. Students may take a maximum of 6 combined credit hours of Academic Externship and Independent Study (L898, L899, G898, G899) courses.
Have you taken, or do you plan on taking, an Independent Study course under the L898, G898, L899 or G899 course numbers. If so, please list the courses and credits.
Students may take a maximum of 6 credit hours of pooled courses that include the L900 academic externship course and certain independent studies courses under the following course numbers: L898, G898, L899, and G899.
Verification of Externship Responsibilities
In applying for a Loyola College of Law externship, I, understand and agree to the following:
If I have not done so already, I must schedule a meeting to discuss externship options, requirements, and application instructions for individual placements with Prof. Linares.
I agree to follow instructions for applying to individual placements provided by Prof. Linares, including timely submission of application materials for review and sending of thank you notes after interviews with placements.
If I accept an externship placement, I may not subsequently decline that externship placement unless authorized.
My externship may not compensate me in any way.
I understand the Externship Program does not place students in for-profit settings.
The externship experience is academically rigorous and requires a certain number of field hours, time sheets, class attendance, journals and a final written portfolio.
Once accepted and enrolled, I am responsible for all of the externship class requirements.
