ENSURE SCHOOLS SUPPORT EXISTING POPULATIONS: current proposal does not meet our needs

As Henry Hudson and Lord Strathcona parents/guardians and impacted community members (teachers, staff, community centre employees):

We call on you to protect our kids’ communities and learning at Strathcona and Hudson schools.

We call on the Vancouver School Board (VSB) to vote “NO” on the proposal being put forward by VSB staff to consolidate the early French immersion (EFI) programs at the two schools – whether gradually, or immediately in 2020.
我們呼籲您為此提案投「反對」─無論是漸進式或於2020年一次性搬遷。
Further, we call on the VSB to create a new plan that: maintains the EFI program at Henry Hudson, ensures seismic upgrades happen on any building that will be used for classrooms at either school, and strengthens the existing student populations through responding to their respective identified needs.
此外,我們呼籲溫哥華教育局制定一項新計劃:保留Henry Hudson小學現有的早期法語課程,確保地震升級計劃於每所學校建築物實行,加強現有的學生人數及對他們的需求作出回應。
After reviewing the information provided by VSB, we do not support the proposal to consolidate the Early French Immersion (EFI) Program at Hudson Elementary with the EFI program at Strathcona Elementary:

We believe adding an extra EFI cohort will further marginalize Strathcona‘s population of low-income inner-city kids and should not be added.

We believe that the Hudson school community should not be disrupted and that Hudson students have a right to continue in their program at their current school.

We also believe that all in-catchment children applying to the English program at either Hudson or Strathcona should be granted a space before adding in new EFI spots that don’t include French catchment preference (once French catchments are restored from temporary suspension).

We strongly encourage the VSB to advocate with the Minister of Education for additional capacity in a seismically rebuilt and expanded Henry Hudson school that can accommodate EFI and future English enrolment.
我們強烈鼓勵VSB與教育局部長提倡於Henry Hudson小學地震升級重建時,增加額外空間容量及擴建Henry Hudson小學,來應付早期法語授課課程和未來英語授課課程的入學人數。
We are concerned that the VSB is playing a “numbers game” with our children’s education - the current VSB proposal treats students as dots on a map that can be picked up and moved around without any planning or thought regarding their specific needs, their learning, and their community. Further, the VSB’s own 2019 Long Range Facilities Plan shows that Strathcona is at 101% capacity already.
我們關注現時VSB把我們孩子的教育進行“數字遊戲” – 目前VSB所提出的提案就好像將學生視為地圖上的點,在沒有任何規劃或考慮到他們的特殊需要、學習及社區,任意搬移。此外,VSB在自己的2019年遠程設施計劃內顯示Strathcona已經達到101%的容量。

We are committed to ensuring that every child in both of our school communities is supported. The current VSB proposal lacks detail, ignores the stated needs of our schools, and has an impossibly short timeline.
