Sign-Up for Classic Metal Class Session #3 - Identity and Continuity of Bands
This is a form to sign up for Session 3 of the Classic Metal Class, led by Greg Sadler, with special guest, Scott Tarulli

In Session #3, we will be focusing on some clearly metaphysical issues that commonly arise when considering the changes in lineups of bands over time.  These include the famous "ship of Theseus" problem, in which a whole composed of parts gradually has all of those parts replaced - like a band that has no original members left (e.g. Thin Lizzy).  We'll also consider the issue of rival versions of bands which include original/essential members (e.g. Judas Priest and K.K. Downing's Priest). And we'll also think about what, besides being an original member, make some  band members more essential than others.

One additional topic we'll discuss is why this is particularly an issue for classic metal bands that formed in the 1970s or 1980s.

Greg and his guest Scott Tarulli will present for about 45 minutes, and then we'll open up the class for another 45 minutes of Q&A and discussion.

The class session takes place at 12:00 PM Central Time, Saturday June 13, 2020, and will use the Zoom web-conferencing tool. Participants will be emailed handouts and the link to the session.

If a band has no original members left in the band, should we consider it to no longer be that band?
