SUU Alternative Breaks 2024
By completing this form you are applying to be considered for participation in an Alternative Spring Break trip. This application does not guarantee that you will be selected. Applications will be evaluated on the completeness and quality of each answer. After reviewing applications and checking references, you will be notified of your acceptance status. Most notifications happen within one week of completing the application.

Looking to travel in a meaningful way over spring break? Alternative Breaks are the program for you! We have currently have one Alternative Break planned for the 2024 spring break (Saturday Feb 24 - Saturday Mar 2) this year:

Sumter, South Carolina
Cost : $480, plus flight
What we will be doing: Working with Habitat for Humanity building affordable housing in a rural community with a high incidence of poverty.

What you commit to when you apply for a trip:
  • Attending 4-5 pre-trip meetings (these will give valuable information about the trip and the culture). We will attempt to make these short and succinct and at a time that works for everyone.
  • Attending 1 post-trip meeting and 1 post-trip celebration
  • Paying a trip deposit of $200. Scholarships are available, but cannot be used for the deposit
  • Paying the remaining balance by February 15
  • Abiding by SUU travel policies
  • Participating in the trip of a lifetime and making a difference!

It is not uncommon for participants to have some anxieties concerning Alternative Break experiences and also to wonder what challenges they may encounter. Please describe what you imagine to be your biggest challenge or concern while you are on your trip.

It is an expectation that each participant on Alternative Breaks attend ALL pre- and post-trip meetings. There are 4-5 pre-trip meetings, 1 post-trip meeting, and a post-trip celebration with campus leaders. Your submission of this application indicates that you agree to participate in the required meetings. What days/time are you available for meetings?
