Advanced BIOLOGY Plus is a unique opportunity for you (or your AP Biology teacher) to prepare to teach AP® Biology and increase student success on AP® exams. This program allows you (or your AP® Biology teacher) to work with ASMSA Life Science Curriculum Specialists to provide digital and on-site opportunities for your students. Our faculty members provide
all curriculum content online while working in conjunction with the assigned classroom teacher at the participating school.
COST AND INFORMATION:
- There is a $100 non-refundable registration fee for the year-long program to ensure your place and help defer training costs (regardless of number of students). This covers all training, curriculum, online access to a learning management system, a technology expansion pack for the teacher's lab or classroom, and more. If you are a teacher registering yourself, please obtain administrative approval before completing this form.
- There is no student tuition. There is no limit to the number of AP Biology students a school or district can enroll.
- Participating teachers will receive a biotechnology expansion package for their classrooms. For example, recent participants received packages worth $200-$400 containing an electrophoresis apparatus and an adjustable micropipette for gel loading OR molecular modeling kits OR Vernier Lab Probes. Participating teachers in these cohorts also had the opportunity to win a variety of door prizes including lab and demo kits. We also provide access to digital classroom technologies including Pear Deck. The contents of future biotechnology expansion packages may or may not include the same materials, as package contents are determined by teacher requests and available funding.
- Schools may use any textbook approved by the College Board for AP Biology, although we recommend the Campbell AP Biology textbook (11th edition or later). ASMSA has a limited number of textbooks available for lease to participating schools. Leased textbooks must be returned to ASMSA at the end of the school year. These are intended to be "classroom copies" and schools may only lease one textbook at a time.
- All professional development events are included in the $100 registration cost. Participating districts must provide time for the assigned teacher to attend a week long summer VIRTUAL "boot camp" (July 21-25, 2025) and 2 one-day AP® Biology Professional Development sessions throughout the school year that accompany the class. Dates for these two workshops during the school year will be determined at the summer boot camp taking everyone's schedules into account. There will also be a one-day required in-person lab training PD event in the fall for teachers joining us for the first time. Meals are provided at no cost during on-campus PD events. Teachers attending these PD events can earn approximately 24-36 hours of quality, ADE-approved PD hours.
- Participating teachers may also request that an ASMSA biology teacher travel to your school or your teacher may bring students on a field trip to ASMSA for a biotechnology lab activity. This is on a first-come, first-served basis.
