1.0 Scope

All delegates participating in the 2026 Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) May Day Brigade, be they union sponsored or self-funders, are expected to abide by this code of conduct.

2.0 Behaviour

The May Day Brigade is not a holiday, but a solidarity brigade. You will be representing your unions and CSC and therefore delegates are required to behave appropriately throughout.

CSC is committed to making the brigade inclusive and enjoyable for everyone and all delegates are expected to adhere to the following key principles:

Harassment will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, offensive language or comments related to race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, physical appearance, or belief.
No inappropriate physical contact, sexual attention or innuendo.
No bullying or intimidation.
No violent behaviour, which harms or threatens to harm another delegate or purposefully damages their property.
Be respectful to others, including other delegations, ICAP staff and all Cubans you meet during your time in the country. This includes clearing up after yourselves in communal spaces and not making excessive noise late at night.
If delegates do drink alcohol, they are expected to do so responsibly. Drinking alcohol should not prove to be a hindrance to fully participating and engaging with the programme.

3.0 Attendance

Unless you are unable to due to personal reasons or ill health/physical issues, you must attend all sessions of the brigade programme. Missing a programme session because you are not interested in it, or want to pursue recreational activities, is not a valid reason.

If you are unable to attend a session for a valid reason, you must inform the brigade lead beforehand.

4.0 Breach of the code of conduct

If you witness a violation of the code of the conduct, we encourage delegates (if appropriate and if you feel comfortable doing so) to speak to the person in question in the first instance.

If you experience or witness a violation of the code of conduct you can also speak to the CSC brigade lead on the camp. If you don’t feel comfortable raising this with the CSC lead on the brigade, you can also raise it with a member of CSC staff in the UK. Appropriate contact details will be provided in due course.

Anyone who seriously or continuously violates these rules may be:

Reported back to their union; and/or
Prevented from participating in further brigade activities.
