Thank you for your interest in joining our group. We have been in business for more than 37 years, we currently have over 375 umpires and still have more baseball and softball than we have umpires! Our organization handles more than 18 park associations, 6 tournament groups, several men’s leagues, private highschools and college club baseball throughout
Metro Atlanta with requests coming in weekly from more groups asking for us to
cover their baseball and softball. Needless to say you can work as
much or as little as you choose. Each umpire is paid $40 to $100 per game
as an independent contractor. We pay weekly via direct deposit, two weeks in arrears.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
In order to become an umpire you will have to pay an upfront cost of $375; this includes a
$100 annual registration fee, a $25 hat and a $250
uniform package and equipment package. This will be due at the on the field
training where you will receive your hat along with your uniform and equipment
package. Our payroll software charges a one-time $15 fee to setup your banking info that will be due after training when you get registered in the software.
IS THERE TRAINING? Yes we require training for all new umpires. Training has three steps for completion:
1. Virtual training on rules, game management, software training of our scheduling
/payroll system, etc. (Usually lasts 3 to 4 hours)
2. On the field training that includes mechanisms, positions, etc (Usually last
3 to 4 hours)
3. Live baseball in our younger age groups of kid pitch baseball with an experienced
umpire.
Steps 1 and 2 are unpaid and costs you nothing, but your time, as we believe in the investment of training. Step 3 is a progression of scheduling the right games over time and age groups until you are ready to call any age group. These will be fully paid.
WHEN WILL GAMES BEGIN AND END? Some associations and tournaments start as early as mid-Feburary, with almost all starting by the first of March. We have a heavy ball schedule through the end of October with a few tournaments into November with a summer break in late July through August.
WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Although we call games anywhere there is a need and we have availability, most
of our games are located on the northwest side of Atlanta (Kennesaw, Powder
Springs, Austell, Mableton, Hiram, Dallas, Douglasville, Rockmart, Canton,
Woodstock, Alpharetta, Roswell, Emerson, etc.)
HOW ARE GAMES SCHEDULED? Once you
login to our software with your contact info and update your availability
calendar, we will schedule you games as schedules are received and the system
will notify you of the date, time, location and partner information of each of
your games as they are published. You simply have to confirm you accept
the game and arrive at the field 30 minutes prior to games.
WHAT NEXT? Please fill out and submit the form below. We will respond and send information to sign up for one of our upcoming virtual AND on the field trainings (you must complete both to get started). Once you complete training we will
start scheduling you games! Please note you must be 16 years of age in
order to become an umpire with our organization.
We hope we answered most questions here, but if you need additional support or have more questions you can email us or call us directly.
Please note: Atlanta Umpires powered by 10 B Street Sports is an organization dedicated to providing scheduling and payment services. Umpires must agree to accept assignments as verbal contracts, to work as scheduled, to assume responsibility to report income earned as
required by governmental agencies, and to conduct themselves in a manner which
does not discredit the reputation of the umpire organization.
