Career fair. Host a table or booth at a middle or high school career fair. Time commitment would be a full day. *
Guest speaking in a middle or high school classroom about your career and your industry. Approximately one hour commitment per guest speaking opportunity. *
Hosting a virtual field trip via video conferencing or hosting a field trip to your business (post-COVID). Approximately a 2-3 hour commitment the day of the visit. *
Serving on a business advisory board. Meeting once or twice annually with the program teacher and administrator along with other industry professionals from the field to review curriculum and ensure alignment of skills and knowledge to industry expectations. Approximate time commitment 1.5 - 2 hour meeting. *
Mock interview. Once a year, mock interview students as if you were an employer hiring for an entry-level position and they were applying for the position. Time commitment could be half day (3 hours) or full day (6 hours). *
Designing a team-based challenge. Approximately 2-3 hour commitment to define a problem from your industry that teams of students could solve using the skills and knowledge from their CTE program. Not an ongoing commitment. *
Serving as a mentor during a team-based challenge. Over the course of 6 - 12 weeks, provide support, advice, mentorship to student teams completing a team-based challenge. Approximately six hours of contact spread across the weeks of the team-based challenge. Contact with student teams could be virtual, via email, or in-person at the school. *
Host a job shadow student. Approximately a half day (three hours) or full day (six hours) commitment to host a student and show that student the world of work. *
Host a work-based learning experience (internship). Experience could be paid or unpaid. Commitment would be a minimum of 60 hours of internship placement for the student per semester. Additional commitment would include at least three semester check-ins with teacher coordinator of internship and completion of internship paperwork including evaluation of student progress. *
