Current animal management practices of humanitarian organisations
Increasingly, the importance of animal management in emergencies is being acknowledged. Besides humans, animals also fall victim to disasters, and this frequently has extensive consequences for people's livelihoods.

Centre for Development Innovation and Disaster Studies (both at Wageningen University) are looking to expand the still limited knowledge base regarding livestock disaster management by humanitarian agencies. This research was commissioned by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and will serve as basis for discussion at the FAO/WSPA expert meeting on ‘Animals in Emergencies’, to be held later this year.

We would much appreciate your input as a humanitarian practitioner. This is a short 5-10-minute survey, which will allow us to gain a rough understanding of the place of animals in humanitarian practice. Please fill it in (click the 'continue'-button below); your information will be treated confidentially. Additionally, at the end of the survey, we will ask you whether you are available for a more elaborate Skype (or phone) interview (about 30 minutes, depending on your availability), through which we aim to gain a deeper understanding of your organisation’s experience with animals in emergencies, and the successes and problems encountered.

This survey will be online until June 26, 2012. Thank you for sharing your valuable experience with us. If you have any questions or remarks regarding this research, please feel free to contact us.
