ERASMUS + TRAINING COURSE - “BUILDING TOGETHER MEANINGFUL YOUTH EXCHANGES” - Marche en Famenne (Belgium) 12th-17th May

What: ERASMUS + TRAINING COURSE - “BUILDING TOGETHER MEANINGFUL YOUTH EXCHANGES”
Where: Marche en Famenne - Belgium
When: 12th - 17th May (travel days included)

1. Background

For several years, CBB develops youth exchanges in partnership with youth organizations and youth clubs from all over Europe. The youth exchange format encourages a bottom-up approach in order to ensure the young people to be at the heart of the action. In parallel, collaborative methods must be deployed in order to foster an equal participation of all partners in the project.

If this is easy to say, it is not that easy to implement...

  • How to facilitate the emergence of ideas and positive energy among the young people to design an activity that will correspond to their expectations?
  • How to install a participatory process with the partners, their group leaders and participants?
  • How to sustain the involvement of all stakeholders (partners, group leaders, accompanying persons, participants…) along the project process (preparation, implementation, evaluation)?

These questions are at the basis of our training course proposal.

2. Objectives of the training course

Along 4 working days, with the use of non-formal education methods, we wish to equip participants with clear references and useful tools for the preparation and facilitation of European Youth Exchanges.

Our training will focus on the following elements:

  • Shaping and organizing a “driving” group; thus ensuring that young people are embarked since the initiation of the project, nurturing it with their ideas, wishes, and expectations.
  • Shaping and coordinating a team of group leaders in the context of multilateral youth exchanges; ensuring that each group leaders feels consulted and involved all along the process; are clear with their roles and tasks.
  • Developing together a meaningful agenda, coherent with the topic of the exchange, with the age and the profile of the participants.
  • Addressing the organisation of a shared collective "life" and framework that brings together participants from various countries, cultures and backgrounds into a common dynamic.
  • Conceiving and delivering a workshop as facilitator, creating the brave and safe space for the participants to share their perspectives, create something together and learn.
  • Evaluating a youth exchange at the level of the participants' and group leaders' participation and contribution.
