This event is held in honor of Janie Hernandez, MSEd, an alum of LMSA University of Illinois at Chicago, who had to leave medical school after 2 years due to her illness, who lost her battle with Sickle Cell Anemia in September 2017 at the age of 35 years old. She was a pioneer in helping advance medical treatment for Sickle Cell Anemia, participating in trials as the youngest patient, including bone marrow transplants with the help of Be the Match. Her family, friends, all her knew her feel her loss. She had such a bright spirt all who met her couldn't help but remember her fondly. All funds generated from this event will go towards the Sickle Cell Anemia Research and Awareness Foundation. You will also have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jose Greer, a renowned physician and speaker.
