WHAT ARE ANSEP CAREER EXPLORATIONS?ANSEP Career Explorations are organized to provide project exploration for
past and currently involved ANSEP
participants who have yet to enter high school. During each academic and residential experience, students take part in hands-on projects designed to promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and careers. Students attend this program free of charge. Accepted students are able to attend one Career Exploration session per summer until they enter high school.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE ANSEP CAREER EXPLORATIONS OCCUR?Career Explorations are five-day, academic, residential program that emphasizes increasing knowledge and skills while re-engaging students into ANSEP and campus life. Industry professionals, ANSEP staff and/or University faculty lead the sessions.
Career Explorations will be held and housed on the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) or on the Sitka Fine Arts Camp campus in Sitka. It is mandatory for all participants to stay for the entire duration of the program. No visitors or check outs are allowed during the program due to the short duration.
NOTE: ANSEP can provide airfare with Alaska Airlines to Anchorage/Sitka. Participants are responsible for airfare between their hometown and an Alaska Airlines hub.WHO SHOULD APPLY TO THE ANSEP CAREER EXPLORATIONS?All past and currently involved ANSEP participants who are entering grades 7, 8, or 9, who:
o Are interested in STEM
o Have at least a B average in science and mathematics courses, and
o Are on track (or can get on-track) to complete Algebra 1 before entering high school.
HOW DO YOU APPLY?□ Student (and Parent/Guardian) completes this student application form OR fills out the
paper application
□ Parent/Guardian
obtains and sends in a copy of grades and standardized test scores from the past 2 grading periods.
□ Online recommendations from CURRENT math and science teacher(s) – see below for details.
□ Student-written essay – see below for details.
□ Submit all application documents.

their recommendation
o Inform them of the application deadline
