Apply to join us on Spring Break 2026 for the course Costa Rica Conservation (ENVI 300/BIOL 300). This extended field-study course will include on-campus meetings with a field trip to Costa Rica over Spring Break. This distinctive interdisciplinary course would focus on two key themes: "Tropical Ecology and Conservation" and "The Politics of Ecotourism." As such, students will study unique Costa Rican ecosystems, the use of policy to juggle biodiversity conservation and economic development, and the political implications of this balancing act. The field portion of the course will include significant time in the political hub of San Jose, at a field station on the Osa Penninsula, and at the eco-tourism hub of Monteverde.
Travel dates - Friday March 13-Sunday March 22
Course Fees - $3,400
The course fee includes airfare, most meals, all transportation in Costa Rica, entry fees to museums, guided tours, and other programming, lodging San Jose, on the Osa Peninsula, and Monteverde.
We will need at least 12 students to run the trip, with a maximum of 16 students total.
