Union Summer 2021 Application
The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO's Union Summer is a paid $17 per hour summer internship for people interested in the labor movement. Participants spend an exciting seven weeks, from June 21 - August 7, working full-time and hands-on with different campaigns to advance opportunities for working people. Union Summer is an intensive program which is comprised of 3 main components: education, actions, and on the job training. Union Summer is unique and exciting, it combines front-line labor-related work with grassroots organizing in ongoing campaigns by unions throughout the greater Seattle area. This year we will have both an in-person and a virtual track for Union Summer Interns.

A typical Union Summer week could look like this:

Tuesday: Attend a rally at the airport to support striking flight attendants, followed by 4 hours registering people to vote at a farmers market.
Wednesday: 8 hours of phone calls to union members reminding them to turn in their ballot for their union.
Thursday: Filing for the office manager, running to the post office, and attending a lobbying meeting with your supervisor and the Mayor.
Friday: Education day. 8 hours in the classroom learning about the history of the labor and social justice movements in the Pacific Northwest.
Saturday: 4 hours doing house visits in 80-degree weather talking to union members about local politics and elections.

Union Summer is fast-past and Union Summer Interns are expected to be flexible, as the nature of campaigns can change daily. Union Summer is not a regular internship. Union Sumer Interns are contributing to a movement of working people of all colors and backgrounds doing the work to build stronger unions. Apply today if you are ready to join us.

Deadline to apply - 5pm PST, May 7, 2021.
