2027 GSDMC Annual Conference: “Leading to Learn & Learning to Lead”

Our 42nd GSDMC Annual Mathematics Conference theme is "Leading to Learn & Learning to Lead." We are looking for everyone from education leaders to classroom teachers to share their expertise and experience with the wider San Diego mathematics community. While we are always looking for best pedagogical practices, we are also looking for specific examples of content-specific applications of those best practices (projects, lessons, activities, etc.). If you have something innovative and feel like it is a good fit for this year's conference, please propose it.

Call For Proposals - Annual Conference
We are delighted to announce our call for speaker proposals for our annual February conference!  We invite you to submit a proposal to present on Saturday, February 27, 2027 at the Palomar College Education Center in Rancho Bernardo (11111 Rancho Bernardo Rd, San Diego).

Our conference theme is "Leading to Learn & Learning to Lead." We want to bring educators together for a day to connect, collaborate, and inspire each other to grow professionally.  We hope participants will walk away with concrete ideas and activities to immediately implement.

We are accepting proposals for 75-minute in-depth sessions that will actively engage attendees in one of our 5 conference foci:

  • Coaching - Supporting the professional learning of each other’s content and pedagogical knowledge. What strategies help us to continue to grow with and from each other?

  • Collaboration - Working together to center all student voices and promote diverse ways of thinking and sense-making. What practices build competency in learners as they develop deeper content knowledge and learn to read their mathematical world? 

  • Content - High-demand cognitive tasks that integrate STEAM into our mathematics classrooms. What activities promote connecting mathematical ideas to other content areas and the world around us?

  • Communicators - Building academic language to support all learners in navigating grade-level content. What strategies support students in building their ability to process and explain their understanding?

  • Culture - Developing a culture of learning among all educators and students. Learning labs, lesson study, aligned to the CA Math Framework, how do you strengthen “learner identity” for adults and/or students?


Please complete the speaker proposal form below by September 21st, 2026. We will contact you by mid-October to let you know if we are able to include your proposal in the program. All rooms will be equipped with a computer projector, doc-camera, and set up to facilitate group collaboration. We are particularly interested in sessions that actively engage attendees, so please address these elements in your proposal.  

You may name a co-speaker to assist with your workshop.  Compensation for speakers and one co-speaker will include:

(1) Complimentary registration and membership in the Greater San Diego Math Council for one year.

(2) Transportation reimbursement for driving costs. (If you are coming from outside of driving area, please email to let us know.)

(3) Handout reimbursement, not to exceed $25 for each session for sessions in rooms holding 40 or fewer people, or up to $50 for sessions in rooms holding more than 40 people. Itemized receipts must accompany your request for reimbursement.
