Sunday, December 6, 2020 - 9am - 3pm (undergraduate students only, paid for by SGA)
Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour national certification course that is designed to teach the layperson the skills to recognize the signs of a mental health or substance use disorder crisis, identify community resources, and link individuals in need of treatment and support to the proper resources.
The course will consist of a 1.5-hour self-paced introduction course online, followed by a 6-hour virtual skills session with live Mental Health First Aid instructors. You will learn a 5-step action plan and practice applying it throughout the skills section of the course.
If you take this course through the state of Maryland's Mental Health First Aid organization, the cost is $119, but we are offering this course for $28.95 per person, which covers the cost of your seat in the Learning Management System and the materials you can refer back to after the course.
(Please NOTE: The training on Sunday, 12/6 for undergraduates only is being covered at 100% by the Student Government Association.)
If a department is funding your attendance, you can provide a KFS number for fund transfer or pay with credit card.
You must register NO LATER than one week prior to the date of training. You will need a few days to be loaded into the Learning Management system and then to take the self-paced portion of the training BEFORE your live session.
If we receive more people than we can train this time, we will keep you on a waiting list. Please remember, if you register to participate, you are committing to complete the self-paced course AND attend the FULL 6 hours of live skills practice. Participants will receive a certificate marking their certification in Mental Health First Aid. This certification is active for 3 years and can be a great addition to your resume.
