Parents and Guardians,

As shared in earlier communications, the District's virtual instruction model would be assessed continuously with a tentative resumption to hybrid-in-person instruction beginning at the end of the first marking period, November 12.

As the District continues forward with the implementation of our in-person hybrid instruction model, we continue to be led by the guidelines set forth by the Governor, New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health departments, including social distancing and daily health checks.

We are resending the "Return to School Preference Form" sent to families in August 2020. We understand that some families may still be apprehensive about sending their children back to school during this pandemic. Knowing this, the District would like to provide parents/guardians with flexibility, but also needs to plan in advance for scheduling purposes and ensure we are abiding by social distancing requirements.

We encourage you to attend or view recordings (post-event, within 24 hours) of the following upcoming events and review the hybrid instruction plan provided in August in order to make an informed decision on whether your child will attend school in-person or continue all-virtual instruction by re-submitting this form.

1) Monday, October 19, 7:30 pm - Board of Education Meeting - The Superintendent will share details regarding the District's reopening plan with the SOMSD community.

2) Monday, October 26, 7:30 pm - SOMSD Return to School Academic Town Hall WebEx

Although parents can always change their minds to opt for virtual instruction, a requested move to in-person instruction will be honored and should be expected to be implemented after the New Year to coincide with the next marking period. All requests will be processed at the school level.

Instructional Options:
1) Hybrid Model: Hybrid students will attend school in person 2 days per week (4 hours in the morning) and virtually 3 days per week (Friday will be virtual for all). Students will attend school for in-person hybrid instruction in two cohorts (A and B) composed of students separated alphabetically based on the actual number of students per alphabet.
-Cohort A - Students with last names beginning (example: *X - Y)
-Cohort B - Students with last names beginning ( example: *Y - Z)

Consideration will be given to keep families together, and should siblings or family members with different last names need to be placed in the same cohort, parents should contact their building administration to discuss.

2) Virtual Model: Virtual students will attend virtually 5 days per week via Canvas and Google Meet platforms

3) Special Services: Note a subset of Special Services/ELL student population will attend in person 4 days per week, 4 hours per day in the morning. One day per week, all students will learn virtually
