Thank you for offering to post bail for a neighbor! We are a people-powered, grassroots initiative to get people out of NYC jails and supported after release. Together, we empower the freedom of our people in city jails. Over 80% of people caged in NYC jails are waiting for trial, most because a judge set punitively high bail. Everyone is locked up in dangerous, traumatizing conditions. In response, we organize community bail outs so we can collectively free each other from state violence and offer support needed to recover from incarceration.
Peoples Bail Out NYC does not post bail. YOU do. Posting bail requires interacting with Department of Correction staff, so please consider your personal risk of harm or trauma. If your risks are low, we appreciate you for signing-up!
We will *email* you about upcoming bail outs and count on you to respond quickly, if you can!
In-person bail poster requirements: Pick up funds from one of our organizers in advance. Go to a bail window in lower Manhattan, downtown Brooklyn, or jails in the Bronx or on Rikers Island, generally on a weekday morning. Plan to spend 2-5 hours at or near the bail window. Review the detailed bail paying info we'll send you. Be awesome! Enact solidarity!!
Can't post bail? Let us know other ways you can support folks freedom with us.
