Thank you for offering to post bail for a neighbor! We are a people-powered, totally grassroots initiative created to get people out of NYC jails and support them after release. Together, we're empowering the freedom and safety our people ask for from within the jails. Over 80% of people caged in NYC jails are waiting for trial, most because a judge set punitively high bail. Everyone is locked up in increasingly dangerous conditions. In response, we're organized to collectively free each other from state violence and offer support needed to recover from incarceration.
Covid Bail Out NYC does not post bail. YOU do. Posting bail requires interacting with Department of Correction staff, so please consider any personal risks of harm or trauma. If your risks are low, we appreciate you for making this commitment.
Look for EMAILS from us about upcoming bail outs and respond quickly, if you can!
In-person bail poster requirements: Pick up funds from one of our organizers in advance. Go to a bail window in lower Manhattan, downtown Brooklyn, South Bronx, or Kew Gardens, Queens, generally on a weekday morning. Plan to spend 2-5 hours at or near the bail window. Review the detailed bail paying info we'll send you. Be awesome! Show solidarity!!
Can't post bail? Let us know how else you want to participate in this collective project.
