America's Battle of the Books at St. Mary is a thrilling contest where student teams compete to showcase their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. It is a great way for our scholars to dive into a diverse selection of books and explore new worlds through literature!
How It Works
Students are on a team of 3-4 students. Each team reads 20 books from September-December. (Typically, each student on a team is responsible for reading 5 books out of 20.) Select here to view the book lists.
Weekly Expectations
Students will read assigned chapters each the week. Then they will meet with their team during a weekly, 1-hour practice (3-4 p.m.) and quiz each other on the books. There will also be several competitions throughout the fall to see which team knows the most about each book, leading up to the Master Battle of the Books competition in December.
