We recognise that inequality exists in the arts. Curious Seed welcomes and celebrates difference and we strive to ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion is embedded at the heart of our thinking and planning. We are committed to promoting these values through our programme of work and in how we operate.

As a Multi-Year Funded Organisation, Creative Scotland requires us to collect equalities monitoring information from those who work with us. We then report back to Creative Scotland who use this data to report to the Scottish Government. It is also used to inform Creative Scotland’s plans by highlighting possible inequalities and to address any unfairness or disadvantage across the sector. They are concerned to know if their distribution of funds is fair, and how diversity and inclusion can be furthered in the Arts, Screen and Creative Industries.

The questions in this survey are based on Creative Scotland's specific current EDI monitoring requirements. Creative Scotland will only use this data for statistical reporting, benchmarking and as evidence for policy making. In this form we ask questions regarding age, sex, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation. This covers some of the ‘protected characteristics’ in The Equality Act 2010. We also include questions on gender identity, socio-economic background, Gaelic language and parental/caring responsibilities.

We acknowledge that you may prefer not to share information about these areas with us, so we have provided a 'Prefer Not to Say' option for all questions. We have also provided space if you have selected 'Other' for any responses and you wish to give more detail. Answering the questions is voluntary, and you may choose which (if any) you answer.

Socio-Economic Background

We understand there are barriers to access and progression for people from different socio-economic backgrounds and we want to be proactive in changing this.

Following research and consultation, Creative Scotland are introducing a question to capture the socio-economic background of people we work with.

Collecting this data will help to understand what needs to be done in order to improve socio-economic diversity and inclusion in the arts, screen and creative industries across Scotland.

This question is in line with that adopted by other cultural organisations and will give us a benchmark for the sector which we can build on in the future.
