What does each volunteer role do?

Election Day Poll Observer

  • Poll Observer are the eyes and ears on the ground at polling places across the state on election day. They assist voters and ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot. We will train, assign, and support you to make sure that you are as effective as possible on Election Day. While being able to observe for the duration of election day is the goal, you can also sign up for a half day if necessary.
  • Poll Observer must be physically present in PA for their shift, but do not necessarily have to be PA voters.

Canvass Observers

  • After the polls close, volunteers help ensure that every vote is counted by monitoring the process of counting ballots (often called “canvassing ballots”). The schedule for when ballots are counted varies by county, but runs approximately for the two-week period following Election Day.
  • Canvass Observers must be physically present in PA for their shift, but do not necessarily have to be PA voters.

Voter Assistance Hotline Volunteers

  • The Voter Assistance Hotline answers questions by phone about voting and addresses issues reported by voters, in real time. Volunteers do not have to be a PA resident to help. Calls come to our hotline from voters in all 67 counties and we help all callers regardless of political affiliation. This is a great way to protect the vote remotely.
  • Voter Assistance Hotline Volunteers can volunteer remotely and do not have to be PA voters.

Voter Assistance Textline Volunteers

  • The Voter Assistance Textline answers questions by text about voting and addresses issues reported by voters, in real time. Volunteers do not have to be a PA resident to help. Calls come to our hotline from voters in all 67 counties and we help all callers regardless of political affiliation. This is a great way to protect the vote remotely.
  • Voter Assistance Textline Volunteers can volunteer remotely and do not have to be PA voters.

Volunteer Recruiters

  • We need to recruit thousands of volunteers to help us protect the vote this year. The best way for us to do that is by calling and texting potential volunteers to encourage them to get involved! This is a fantastic remote opportunity!
  • Volunteer Recruiters can volunteer remotely and do not have to be PA voters.

Early Vote Monitors

  • Volunteers assist voters outside Boards of Election and satellite locations during early voting. You do not have to be a PA voter to be an Early Vote Monitor.
  • Early Vote Monitors engage with voters outside their place of voting to assess any issues that may have arisen and to provide guidance to voters if any is needed. Volunteers will be assigned based on the distance they are willing to travel. We will train and support volunteers throughout the process.
  • Early Vote Monitors must be physically present in PA for their shift, but do not necessarily have to be PA voters.
Ballot Chase and Cure Volunteers
  • Ballot Chase and Cure Volunteers contact voters to provide them with crucial information regarding voting by mail. This can include calling voters and making sure that they have a plan to complete their mail-in ballot properly and return it on-time, as well as providing voters who have had their ballots rejected because of a mistake with information on how to make sure that their ballot is counted. This is a great way to protect the vote remotely.
  • Ballot Chase and Cure Volunteers can volunteer remotely and do not have to be PA voters.
