Thank you for your interest in becoming part of Slavic Village Development's Green Team! SVD Green Team members will be responsible for door-to-door education and outreach regarding the benefits of urban tree canopy. Green Team members will also assist in tree planting projects, vacant lot surveys and helping to maintain our pocket parks, community gardens and green infrastructure. Each SVD Green Team member will receive training from Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Trust For Public Land, Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District and other partner organizations.
Main roles and responsibilities include:
- Effectively engage residents primarily through door-to-door canvasing on your block and surrounding blocks.
- Connecting residents with tree-related resources available through SVD and City of Cleveland.
- Building trust and developing relationships with community residents around neighborhood tree canopy and vacant lot maintenance.
- Assist SVD during tree planting projects.
- Evaluate vacant lot conditions using Regrid.
- Assist SVD in maintaining pocket parks and green infrastructure sites, primarily trash removal and reporting any concerns to SVD.
- Attend and actively participate in trainings offered by SVD related to urban tree canopy, park development and green infrastructure.
- Familiarity with tree and vacant lot services provided by SVD.
Minimum Qualifications
- Broadway-Slavic Village residents are preferred, 18+
- Interpersonal skills- i.e. is friendly, approachable and enjoys interacting with people from a wide range of communities and cultures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cohort/collaborative team.
- Some evening and weekend work is required.
Essential Functions
This position requires:
- Ability to talk and hear.
- Ability to bend, rotate and reach.
- Ability to walk and stand.
- Ability to carry, push/pull and lift materials or supplies, weighing upwards of 30 lbs.
- Movement on streets, sidewalks and driveways.
- Ability to focus.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision/distance vision and peripheral vision.
- Access to smartphone and data for Regrid.
- Access to email for work coordination.
- Access to transportation and internet service for required trainings, in-person and remote.
Compensation
- Green Team members will be paid in the amount of $17 per hour, for 5-10 hours per week.

This is a temporary role lasting one year with the potential for future funding to continue in this role past that timeframe.
