TOURING VOLUNTEERSTouring volunteers are needed to assist with food service, sewing/laundering, merchandise sales, and driving (non-CDL). Touring volunteers are provided meals on tour, passes to the shows, and travel on a charter bus. You will sleep either on the bus or in classroom facilities on the road. No specific skills are required, but you need to bring a positive attitude and strong work ethic. The work is hard and non-stop, but very rewarding. A background check is required.
ON-SITE VOLUNTEERSOn-site volunteers assist when the corps comes to their town (1-2 days). This often includes trips to/from the airport, helping source groceries, making medical runs, washing uniforms, and serving a meal or two. This is a great way to assist the corps with a minimal time commitment.
EVENT VOLUNTEERSForward Performing Arts sponsors three Drum Corps International events. Event volunteers are need for show-day operations including working in the ticket booth, ticket entrance, ushers, guest services, score runners, judge liaisons, and stadium setup/cleanup. Volunteers are provided entrance to the event, but keep in mind that you do not see much of the actual performances.
SEWING TEAMThis team is responsible for making the corps look great. Sewing skills are preferred, but not required. The sewing team will make adjustments and basic repairs to the uniform, guard costume, and flags. As well, this team routinely launders the uniforms on a rotation basis.
MERCHANDISE TEAMMeet firsthand the fans of the Madison Scouts as you help the corps raise money through our retail operations. This job entails a “customer service” focus as we want our store to be professional in presentation and a great experience for customers. Retail experience is a plus. This group travels separately from the corps and their work begins several hours before the show starts. Each location requires that our store be assembled, optimized, and taken down afterwards. You need to track inventory, accurately manage cash and credit card transactions, and engage customers during their visit. You need to have an outgoing personality and a knack for retail sales.
NON-CDL DRIVERWe are in need of drivers for our merchandise operations (24′ RV towing a 22′ trailer), our 26' box truck (props), and our lead vehicle (SUV pulling 15' trailer). A CDL is not required, but you do need to be experienced in driving larger size vehicles and towing trailers. The driver is required to drive overnight, meaning you will need to adjust your sleep schedule appropriately. The driver needs to assure the vehicle is fueled and maintained properly, hook & unhook the trailer multiple times a day, and follow all safety protocols. A clean driving record is required in order to be placed on our insurance policy.
