CAR-FREE TELEGRAPH NOW!
The blocks of Telegraph Avenue near campus are the second-highest foot-trafficked streets in the East Bay. By closing these blocks to car traffic and opening them to pedestrians, we can create accessible public space to be enjoyed by all while encouraging sustainable transportation such as bikes, walking, and busses.
People from all across Berkeley have called for a car-free Telegraph for decades. Despite a unanimously-approved resolution from City Council and a high ranking for the project, there is no funding allocated to begin the construction and design process.
As students, we are calling on UC Berkeley Admin to support the use of Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP) funding to begin the design process for a car free Telegraph. Let's show that this is a student priority for safety and quality of life near campus!
