Workshop on Bioethics and Biosafety

The healthcare sector is rapidly evolving through advances in biotechnology, medical research, diagnostics, artificial intelligence, precision medicine and digital health. These developments highlight the importance of ethical research practices, biosafety, and responsible innovation.

This workshop aims to provide practical insights into Bioethics and Biosafety, covering research ethics, informed consent, data privacy, risk assessment, biosecurity, regulatory compliance and the ethical challenges of emerging technologies. It will bring together medical professionals, researchers, innovators, students and healthcare experts to discuss emerging challenges and best practices.

Key themes of the workshop will include:
  • Ethical principles in biomedical and clinical research, including informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, and participant protection.
  • Responsible conduct of research, research governance, and compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Biosecurity awareness, Risk assessment and risk management, including the safe handling, storage, and use of biological materials and sensitive information.
  • Dual-use research considerations, addressing how scientific advances can be leveraged for societal benefit while minimizing potential misuse.
  • Ethical and regulatory dimensions across globe for emerging technologies, including AI in healthcare, genomics, synthetic biology, and digital health innovations.
  • Translation of research into innovation, ensuring that scientific discoveries are developed and deployed responsibly for public benefit.
  • Public trust, accountability, and societal impact, emphasizing the importance of ethical decision-making in healthcare and life science research.

Registration Fee: ₹500 per participant (payment link will be shared with shortlisted candidates)
Eligibility: Medical professionals, healthcare practitioners, researchers, academicians, students, entrepreneurs, startups, innovators, public health experts, and individuals working in or interested in the healthcare, biotechnology, MedTech, and life sciences sectors are welcome to participate.

About the Organizers

CHARAKA is a Centre of Excellence in HealthTech, MedTech and Assistive Tech, established by KITS, Government of Karnataka, to promote translational research, innovation and startups.

BeST Cluster is an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, focused on strengthening collaboration between science, technology and society.
