The Literacy Shop Children’s Book Award

Definition:
The Literacy Shop Children’s Book Award recognizes the best titles in children's illustrated books in a given calendar year.

Purpose:
The award will
-Recognize the best in the field of children's books.
-Promote the growing number of books published for children.
-Inspire children to read more.
-Give recognition to the importance of children reading.

Panelist:
The panel will consist of three individuals. The panelist will consist of parents, those in the educational system, and persons that work with children.

Eligibility:
-The book must be an illustrated children’s book.
-The book cannot consist of more than 40 pages.
-Books must have been published between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020. The publication date will be verified.
-The book must be published in The United States of America.
-The book must have an ISBN and bar code.
-If the author does not meet the eligibility requirements after receiving their submission, they can be disqualified without notice.

Criteria:
-Each author is required to pay an $80.00 entry fee per book.
-The author may enter more than one title. Each title needs its own submission form and fee.
-The author is required to mail two copies of their book to the address provided after entry. The author is responsible for shipping. The Literacy Shop must receive the author's book by April 10, 2021. Any books received after this date will be an automatic disqualification from the contest without notice.
-A mailing address will be provided via invoice to where the author's book should be mailed. Please read the invoice thoroughly.
-By submitting an entry, the author agrees their book will not be returned.
-Each book submitted will be donated to a charity of The Literacy Shop choice.

What are we looking for?
All illustrated children's books are eligible. The following criteria are only suggested guidelines and should no way be considered as absolutes.
Each book be will be judged on:
-Story
-Voice
-Style
-Characters
-Theme
-Illustrations
-Final print design

Voting Procedures:
-Each panelist will read each title.
-Each panelist will give their top three.
-Once the top three are chosen from each panelist, the committee will come together and vote on the final three.
-The final three will be decided according to the “What we are looking for?” section.
-The runner-up and the grand prize winner will be decided by a paper ballot.

Prizes:
-The runner up will receive the below
• A cash prize of $100.00
• A live interview on The Literacy Shop Instagram page.
• An interview on a podcast of The Literacy Shop choosing.
• A feature on The Literacy Shop website.
-The grand prize winner will receive the below
• A cash prize of $500.00
• A plaque
• The Literacy Shop Children’s Book Award stickers (500)
• A live interview on The Literacy Shop Instagram page.
• A feature on The Literacy Shop website.
• The option to be part of the panelist for The Literacy Shop Children’s Book Award 2022.
• The option to order more stickers through a quarterly subscription.

All entries should be submitted between January 24, 2021, to March 31, 2021.
No submissions will be accepted after March 31, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST.
The winner will be announced on June 14, 2021 via email and our social media pages.

Once your form is submitted, you receive an invoice within 24 hours of submission. Your invoice will come from Exposed Books Publishing. If your invoice is not paid within 48 hours, your entry will be removed.
