Minterland Adoption Application

Welcome to the Minterland family! We’re excited to have our longtime Twitter supporters join us on this journey to adopt a new furry friend.

Your information is confidential and will only be seen by Shannon and a few trusted volunteers, ensuring your privacy is protected.

Please note that we process applications in the order received. Once a cat or dog has an application, it will be "on hold" until processed. Thank you for considering adoption; rescued pets make the best companions!

PLEASE READ FIRST

1. Contact Information: Please verify that your contact information is accurate. We use this to confirm your veterinarian and share relevant information. This process typically takes 24-48 hours. If you haven’t heard from us after 48 hours, please follow up to ensure we received your application.

2. Veterinary Records: Double-check that we have the correct contact information for your veterinarian. If you have a different veterinarian than listed previously, please provide their details.

3. Annual Vet Visits: We strongly encourage annual veterinary check-ups for all pets, including cats and dogs, even if they stay indoors. Regular exams help identify hidden health issues and allow your veterinarian to build a relationship with your pet. This is especially important for pets over 8 years old; we recommend a geriatric blood panel at that time for future comparisons.

4. Kittens: Kittens under 4 months do best with a companion. We prefer that they be adopted in pairs unless you have another cat at home to interact with.

5. Indoor Cats: We strongly recommend keeping all cats indoors. The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 14-16 years, compared to just 3-5 years for outdoor cats.

6. Declawing: Declawing involves removing the bottom third of each toe, which is crippling for cats. It can lead to trust issues, psychological problems, and arthritis. Many states prohibit this practice. We ask you to commit to never declaw your cat.

7. Returning Pets: If you can no longer keep your cat or dog, please return them to us. This ensures they avoid shelters and receive the necessary care.

8. Transporting Pets: For the safety of your cat or dog, please bring a hard-sided carrier when picking up your new companion. We recommend securing the carrier in your vehicle to prevent it from tipping over or becoming a projectile during an accident.

9. Donations: We operate entirely on donations and fundraising. Each pet incurs a minimum of $135 in veterinary costs, which does not cover all necessary expenses (food, litter, medications, emergency care, etc.). Please consider this when deciding how much to donate.
