Open letter to Columbia administration on replacing union instructional labor

Columbia has eliminated almost all graduate teaching positions in the Core Curriculum, the first-year writing program, language classes, and labs in STEM. Signatories of the open letter pledge not to apply for these positions or circulate job advertisements.

We make these asks in the hope of winning some of these positions back, and to show Columbia and other universities that union busting using these despicable tactics will not work. Supporting each other in this moment is essential for protecting the welfare of all workers in higher ed. We at SWC deeply appreciate your solidarity.

Here is the the text of the open letter, and we will periodically update signatories in the document. It would be very helpful to us if you can provide your full name. We understand, however, that early-career academics may be concerned about the possibility of retaliation. In that case, please provide initials, as well as your current institutionally affiliation, if any. Thank you!
