Adult Volunteer Opportunities @ First Church
Volunteers keep First Church up and running! In order to streamline the volunteer process, please fill out this form if you attend First Church regularly. The opportunities you select will be for the calendar year 2017. Brief descriptions of each opportunity are provided, but if you have any questions please contact the interim church administrator, Melody Van Arragon. Please check the boxes next to the items of interest to you.
The following areas are those where you will be placed on a regular schedule (how often depends on the number of volunteers):
Nursery: Attend to the young children (infants to 3 years of age) during the worship service
Young Children and Worship (greeter) - Assist the storyteller during YCW (during the worship service)
Coffee after church - Set up coffee/snacks, serve and then clean up
Scripture reading - Read the scripture passage for the service
Offertory prayer - Provide the prayer following the offering
Greeters - Stand near the entrance to church and greet people as they arrive; possibly direct them if they are visitors and need guidance
Ushers - Stand in the rear of church and hand out the order of worship and guide people where to sit if needed
Power Point - Operate the PowerPoint slideshow during the worship service - it would involve arriving at church early to review the PowerPoint with Pastor Ben (if you can press computer keys, you can do it!)
Sound Tech - Operate P.A. system and recording equipment for Sunday morning services
The following areas are those where you will be contacted when needed or you will work with a committee to determine need and planning (for these items, you are not obligated to help EVERY time):
Sunday School Substitute: Substitute for one of our Sunday school teachers if they are not able to teach a Sunday. Sunday school is from 9:00 to 9:50 on Sunday mornings.
Transportation - Providing rides for members in need of transportation to appointments, etc.
Food for potlucks – Provide a dish for potluck events
Set up and take down for events – Set up and take down tables and chairs
Call or e-mail people to bring food for potlucks - Coordinate volunteers to bring food
Dishes after special events – Assist with clean-up and doing dishes
Games for the children for church picnics – Organize and run games at our annual church picnic
Host progressive dinner – Be one of the host houses, providing dinner for approximately 6-8 people for our annual progressive dinner
Church Maintenance - Assist with keeping the facility and grounds well maintained and equipped for ministry to God and His people. There would be both opportunities to use your skills to complete small projects such as painting or light carpentry or facilitate improvements by obtaining estimates or overseeing projects
Community Service Projects - Participate in community projects in which the church is involved (some examples of community programs that we have participated in include CAP, Gleaners, MACC Lit, Crossroads, Habitat for Humanity)
