Areas of study may include but are not limited to planetary science, astronomy, astrobiology, human spaceflight, rocketry, spacecraft design, and robotics.

The Ad Astra Kansas Foundation focuses on high-tech and space-tech research in Kansas and on promoting STEM education within the state. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) educational corporation in Kansas.

Award Components: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded—one to a graduate student and one to a full-time undergraduate beyond their freshman year (sophomore, junior, or senior). Tips!

Do start early. Begin writing as soon as possible. The hardest part is getting started, so save the editing for later. You cannot edit a blank page. Ask your guidance counselor, parents, advisors, or writing center for help. Do not underestimate yourself. Many students find essays challenging, but you are capable of doing great work.

Be ambitious, but realistic. We value goals that are achievable and thoughtfully developed.

Be authentic. Share your unique story and highlight what makes you stand out. While the use of AI is not prohibited, essays that rely too heavily on AI tools often sound unoriginal and lack creativity, which can negatively affect your score.
