The educational legacy of Liz Quackenbush.
Liz, Ms. Q as the students knew her, was a passionate educator of underserved students and had strong opinions on the importance of inspiring lifelong learning that extends beyond the classroom.
1. She believed that experiential learning is the key to teaching our youth how to become lifelong learners. Experiential learning is the cycle of learning by doing, then reflecting on that learning to assess what worked and what didn't and then using that information to make adjustments to move forward, like adults do as they learn and grow.
2. She believed that hope for the future is cultivated by building employable skills through meaningful hobbies and experiences, and students deserve to have exposure to those things as part of their public education.
3. She believed in the healing power of nature, and by giving students opportunities to connect with the environment around them, educators give students the gift of a lifelong resource to use and protect.
