The educational legacy of Liz Quackenbush.

Liz, Ms. Q as the students knew her, was a passionate educator of underserved students and had strong opinions on the importance of inspiring lifelong learning that extends beyond the classroom.

1. She believed that experiential learning is the key to teaching our youth how to become lifelong learners. Experiential learning is the cycle of learning by doing, then reflecting on that learning to assess what worked and what didn't and then using that information to make adjustments to move forward, like adults do as they learn and grow.

2. She believed that hope for the future is cultivated by building employable skills through meaningful hobbies and experiences, and students deserve to have exposure to those things as part of their public education.

3. She believed in the healing power of nature, and by giving students opportunities to connect with the environment around them, educators give students the gift of a lifelong resource to use and protect.
TITLE.
Give your project a title.
Ex. 2025 RALC Fashion Show
*
DESCRIPTION:
Describe the project. What will students be doing? How will the funds be used? Please be brief, but thorough.

Ex. Students will be repurposing existing garments to create something new and fabulous to be modeled in a schoolwide fashion show. Funds will be used to purchase garments from Savers, sewing supplies, and an emcee for the event. Community volunteers will be brought in to assist with the sewing, so students will have the opportunity to engage in multi-generational communication that will add a richness to the experience.
LEGACY:
How does this project align with Liz's educational legacy? Please refer to one of the core beliefs listed in the grant description.

Ex. Students who participate in the RALC Fashion Show will be building a variety of employable skills. Not only will they be learning the skill of sewing through repurposing garments, but they will also be building grit through the experiential learning process, and what it takes to complete a project on a real deadline with a real audience.

Please be mindful of student photo permissions, and cover faces if necessary.  *
We will be hosting an informal face to face opportunity to pick up your grant funds, and meet members of the board, at a public venue in Rochester, MN in December. More information will be forthcoming. *
