Student Naturalist Program

Please complete the application below by March 31st to be considered for acceptance into the program.

This years course will be held during the first three weeks of June. You must attend all of these classes to be considered a certified Student Naturalist. The specific course dates and topics covered can be found below. The majority of these dates will involve field trips to a variety of habitats and locations throughout the Mississippi and Alabama coasts. All classes will meet at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center (1815 Popp's Ferry Rd., Biloxi, MS) and round-trip transportation provided from there. All course dates are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled.

June 2nd - Camp Shelby (wildlife conservation and endangered species)
June 4th - Ship Island (coastal birds, marine ecology, marine debris, and a boat trip)
June 9th - Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (coastal habitats and kayaking)
June 11th - Dauphin Island (sharks, marine fisheries, and a boat trip)
June 16th - Pascagoula River (swamps, coastal restoration, and a boat trip)
June 18th - MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center (microplastics and class presentations)
