Greenway Arts Alliance Student Application [FA 2018]


Thank you for your interest in working with Greenway Arts Alliance. Our 20 year long partnership with Fairfax High School has provided more that $1M in support through programs like these.

Here are a few things to note about working with Greenway:

+ All student positions pay a minimum wage
+ Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA while employed
+ Students applying must be available to attend the Greenway All-Student Orientation, TBA- during early Fall and Spring

The application includes the following:

1.) Completed applications (online or paper)
2.) Official Transcript from your school counselor
4.) A signed Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or counselor, including a contact phone number

This semester, we have opportunities in the following areas:

Melrose Trading Post Work-Study
Be an integral part of the Melrose Trading Post Operations Team! We're always looking for hard working students with a good attitude who are able to take direction, work as a team, and show leadership.

Duties: Food court maintenance, market setup & cleanup, parking attendant, ticket taker and much more.

Supervisor: J. Scott, MTP Operations Manager

Schedule: Must be available Sundays for the following time frames 6:30 AM- 1:00 PM and 12:30 PM- 8:30 PM and attendance at Dev Sessions on Wednesdays at lunch.

Greenway Arts Alliance Internships
Are you interested in working behind the scenes alongside professional theatre and arts administration practitioners? There are several opportunities for students to work at the Greenway Institute for the Arts, Greenway Court Theatre, and Melrose Trading Post through our paid internship program.

We have internships offered in the following areas this semester:

+ Production (2) : Organize costume and prop storage and learn about professional theatre production and design roles
+ Front of House (2) : Work with the Box Office and House Management staff to prepare and welcome audiences to the theatre
+ Vendor Team (1) : Make weekly preparations for vendors a part of the Melrose Trading Post.
+ Technical Direction (1) : Assist with technical elements of production including lighting, sound, scenic, and video production.
+ Arts Education (3) : Assist in the planning of arts events and programs for Greenway Institute of the Arts

Schedule: 2-4 Hours per week after school. Hours vary if working on production. Vendor Intern must be available Sundays

Professional Development Sessions (Dev Session):

In addition to scheduled time with the Melrose Trading Post & Greenway Court Theatre, student workers will be involved in monthly professional development workshops with members of the Greenway Arts Alliance staff. This semester's DEV SESSIONS are scheduled for the following dates and times:


Melrose Trading Post Social Media & Event Marketing

The “Social Media & Event Marketing Intern” is a paid position for a Fairfax Senior looking for an opportunity to work behind the scenes of the Melrose Trading Post, LA’s Favorite Flea Market. This position gives a selected student the opportunity to develop marketing, administrative and interpersonal skills in a fun and arts-centered work environment.
Hours: After school Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30PM (2 Hours each day), Sundays from 10:00AM-4:30PM (6 Hours) (10hrs/week) Some flexibility with weekday hours, but Sundays are required.

+Assignments during the week include but are not limited to:
+Crafting weekly social media posts and loading them onto Hootsuite
+Contributing to the blog on
+Creating marketing materials for music line up promotions
+Update chalkboards with the day’s musician schedule
+Administrative support for the Vendor Team

+Assignments on Sundays include but are not limited to:
+Interacting with new vendors- Introduce Greenway Arts Alliance to new vendors, collect required forms, take photos of vendors’ booth
+Take photos for social media purposes, including picking the cutest dog in the market that day, taking videos and photos of musical performances, and more
+Assist the Vendor Team with tasks throughout the market

Helpful skills that will be cultivated while in this position include (Not required, but can help you stand out):
+Writing for promotional purposes / social media
+Patience and ability to talk to all kinds of people
+Experience working with spreadsheets
+Photography skills
+Customer service
+Administrative skills and office experience
