Last year we had an AMAZING time welcoming GEAR UP Alabama students to UAB for our first ever May MiniCamps. These camps were a great success, and there's no way we could have pulled it off without our UAB volunteers.

We're so excited to welcome 500 of our students back again this year, and we'll need all the volunteers we can get. The dates for the sessions are May 13-14 and May 15-16. We will accommodate your schedule and availability as best we can. All volunteers will receive service/volunteer hours, a free t-shirt, and free meals during their time at MiniCamps.

Volunteers will be responsible for aiding and assisting GUA staff in the facilitation of the MiniCamp program. This will include working registration, leading small groups with GUA students, leading GUA students around campus and through activities, eating meals with students, and more. We need volunteers that are committed and flexible to meet the needs of our students while on campus and help our staff to make the program run well. We hope that anyone interested in volunteering will invest in our students in the midst of their college and career journey.

The participating students are all a part of the GEAR UP Alabama class of 2021 cohort and are currently in 10th grade. These students will be traveling from all over the Black Belt Region of Alabama, representing 42 schools across 21 school districts: Barbour County, Macon County, Bullock County, Phenix City Schools, Pike County, Russell County, Montgomery Public Schools, Lowndes County, Dallas County, Butler County, Selma City Schools, Marengo County, Choctaw County, Demopolis City Schools, Linden City Schools, Wilcox County, Sumter County, Pickens County, Perry County, Hale County, and Greene County.
