The mission of the SJSU Undergraduate Social Work Association is to increase communications between undergraduate social work students and faculty; fundraise for events, convocation, and other activities; advocate for our fellow classmates' concerns; create a network between all social work students. Listed below are USWA officer positions that have yet not been filled. If you are interested in supporting the work of USWA, we welcome you to submit your interest.
Student Representative: The Student Representative(s) will be responsible for representing the officers at monthly meetings and serving as a liaison between the officers and other organizations. This entails going to meetings of the College of Health & Human Sciences Student Affairs Committee (CHHS-SAC), the NASW-South Bay Chapter, the SWGSA, and the social work faculty on a monthly basis as needed. Additionally, as requested by the school, they will announce class changes and introduce USWA at any orientation.
Social Events Coordinator: The responsibilities of the Social Events Coordinator(s) include planning and directing the association's major events, such as the annual Friendsgiving, Zoom Social, Sunny Side of Social Work, Social Work Gala, Comedy Night, and Back to School Event.
Convocation Coordinator: The Convocation Coordinator(s) shall form a committee to collaborate with the SWGSA graduation coordinator in planning the annual social work graduation "convocation." Duties may include, but are not limited to, securing a venue, ordering photographers, decorations, stoles, and any other responsibilities that may arise.
Education and Empowerment Coordinator: The coordinator(s) for education and empowerment will be responsible for organizing programs that improve social work knowledge and abilities through training, speakers, workshops, and real-world discussions. This could involve, but is not limited to, hosting guest speakers, holding open forums, and participating in NASW Lobby Days.
Merchandise Coordinator: The Merchandise Coordinator(s) will be in charge of the apparel program. This covers a variety of tasks, such as managing inventory, fulfilling shipping requests, scheduling pickups, and creating clothing and other promotional goods.
Social Media Officer: The Social Media Officer(s) are responsible for managing the USWA social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and uswasjsu.com. Additionally, duties entail printing flyers on behalf of the group and posting updates on our website and social media about events, activities, deadlines, and announcements.
