Kasha Hayes, the curriculum writer for 10th and 11th grade English Language Arts in DC Public Schools, is partnering with DC area educators for Social Justice to host a Curriculum Focus Group.
During the second semester, DCPS students engage with the concept of hegemony and apply their understanding to authors and activists who influenced the American political and social landscape, beginning around 1900 through the present day. The texts students will read were selected to help them develop critical consciousness and learn about the tools of informed action. DCPS curriculum writer Kasha Hayes would like to hear your feedback and suggestions about the text selection in the 11th grade second semester curricula.
If you’d like to help us think through these texts, or provide recommendations for alternate/additional texts, please join us!
DCPS teachers who participate in this session will receive 3 PLUs and dinner. The event will take place on December 14, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Teaching for Change Office. Please contact Kasha Hayes at
kasha.hayes@dc.gov or Fayette Colon at
fcolon@teachingforchange.org with questions.
Please fill out the form below if you are interested in attending this focus group.
