Carbon Pricing and Article 6: Unlocking Africa’s Climate and Economic Potential.
As the global community accelerates efforts to combat climate change, Africa stands at a critical crossroads. Although the continent contributes less than 4 percent of global emissions, it suffers disproportionately from the effects of climate change. At the same time, Africa must pursue sustainable economic growth, which calls for bold and innovative solutions. One such solution is carbon pricing, a tool that can incentivize emission reductions, generate climate finance, and open new pathways for green development when properly designed and implemented.

This high-level webinar will explore how Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which promotes international cooperation through market and non-market mechanisms, can support African countries in establishing credible carbon pricing systems. The session will highlight Ghana's pioneering implementation of Article 6.2 through a bilateral agreement with Switzerland, offering practical lessons and a roadmap for other countries across the continent.
